With John's Pass at its north end and Blind Pass at its south, Treasure Island is surrounded by the water we cruise every day. Guests staying along Gulf Boulevard drive about 15 to 20 minutes across the Treasure Island Causeway to our Gulfport launch. Once you arrive, Captain Allen runs private water sports trips, dolphin tours and island stops, all priced for your group instead of per person.
Boat tours Treasure Island guests book with us start 15 to 20 minutes away. The boat isn't docked on Treasure Island and we don't offer pickups. Every trip leaves from our Gulfport launch on Boca Ciega Bay, just over the causeway.
Treasure Island gives you two kinds of water. The Gulf side has wide beaches and waves, while the bay side is calmer and better for learning. Captain Allen keeps beginners on protected water near Gulfport for family-friendly tubing, then moves to more open water once riders feel ready. Kids get gentle rides at slower speeds, while teens and adults can ask for a faster run.
Wakeboarding is his personal favorite, and riders as young as 5 and as seasoned as 70 have stood up behind the boat. Wakeboarding lessons from Gulfport start with basic technique and safety. Speed and rope length change with your skill level, and switching to another sport is always an option. If it is not clicking, kneeboarding is an easy change of pace.
John's Pass Village and Boardwalk draws crowds on the north end, and the sandbar nearby is one of the liveliest scenes on the coast. It makes a great last stop on a multi-stop day.
Quieter days head the other way. Secluded beaches near Shell Key are ideal for shelling, and a day trip to Egmont Key adds a lighthouse, fort ruins and snorkeling. The Treasure Island Causeway is the most direct way from the island to our Gulfport launch, and the drive usually takes 15 to 20 minutes. The Gulfport ramp has free parking. Directions are listed on our Gulfport boat tour locations page.
Water sports work best in the morning, when the bay is usually calm and glassy. Afternoons suit sunset cruises, dolphin watching and sandbar time, though summer thunderstorms can roll in after lunch. Weekend crowds near the John's Pass sandbar tend to grow through the afternoon, so an earlier start helps you find a quieter spot.
