John's Pass Sandbar Parties From Gulfport
Anchor up at the John's Pass sandbar with your own music and your own cooler.
A John's Pass sandbar party is a private charter built around one idea: dropping anchor at the sandbar near John's Pass and enjoying the social scene with your own group. We leave from Gulfport, cruise north to the pass and set you up to swim, wade and play your music on the Bluetooth system. It runs like any of our private boat tours in Gulfport, and you can start the day with tubing behind the boat before the anchor goes down.
Our private sandbar boat charters leave from the Gulfport ramp and run north through Boca Ciega Bay to the sandbar near John's Pass.
John's Pass sits right at the north end of Treasure Island, so this trip is a favorite with guests staying there and on St. Pete Beach.
What a Sandbar Day Looks Like
John's Pass Sandbar draws a fun crowd when conditions are right. Boats anchor up in the shallows, people wade between them, and the whole spot feels like a neighborhood cookout on the water. Captain Allen picks the anchor spot, you hop off into the shallow water, and the playlist on the Bluetooth sound system is your call.
Bring your own cooler, snacks and water, since food and drinks are not provided. Decorations and party supplies are welcome too. There is no restroom on the boat or at the sandbar, so plan a stop at the dock restrooms before you board.
What to Pack for the Sandbar
A little planning keeps the party going all afternoon. Dehydration and sunburn sneak up fast on the water, so bring more than you think you need:
- A cooler with water, drinks and snacks for everyone
- Sunscreen, hats and polarized sunglasses
- Swimsuits, towels and a dry bag for phones
- Your playlist for the Bluetooth sound system
- Decorations if you are celebrating something
Leave the Boat to Captain Allen
Why deal with the stress of renting a boat when an experienced Gulfport captain can handle everything while you relax? Captain Allen takes care of the navigation, the anchoring and the tides, so your group can focus on the fun. He is a Coast Guard licensed captain trained in CPR and First Aid, and he keeps life jackets in all sizes, including infant sizes, plus a first aid kit on board.
Tides Decide the Timing
Sandbars shift with the tide, and some are only accessible during certain tidal windows. Show up at the wrong time and you either end up in too little water or anchored farther out than you wanted.
Captain Allen checks the tide schedule and the forecast when he plans your trip, so the boat arrives when the sandbar is at its best. Afternoon thunderstorms roll in fast in summer, and he will reschedule or cut the day short if the sky turns. That is why sandbar charters are best planned by phone or text, so the start time can match the tide.
Mix the Party With More of the Bay
A sandbar day does not have to be all anchor time. Some groups start with water sports near Gulfport, then cruise north. Others add a dolphin watching run on the way up Boca Ciega Bay, where dolphins often show up, though sightings are never guaranteed. On a 6-hour day there is room for all of it: tubing near Gulfport, a slow cruise up the bay and a long stretch at the sandbar.
The sandbar is a natural fit for celebrations. Bachelorette party boat charters often build in sandbar anchoring, and birthday boat parties work just as well with a swim stop and a few decorations on board.
Close to the Gulf Beaches
John's Pass runs between Treasure Island and Madeira Beach, right beside John's Pass Village and Boardwalk. Groups staying in Madeira Beach or on Treasure Island drive down to our Gulfport launch, then ride the boat back up to the water off their own beach.
Reach out by call or text at 727-709-0088 to talk through the timing, the tide and how long you want at the sandbar.
For guests staying nearby, these are the sandbar boat tours Madeira Beach visitors ask about most, without having to rent a boat or find a captain on their own.

John's Pass Waters
Getting the Most From the Sandbar at John's Pass
John's Pass connects the Gulf of Mexico with Boca Ciega Bay between Madeira Beach and Treasure Island, and the protected water near the pass offers smooth conditions for swimming and wading. The ride up from Gulfport follows the bay north past waterfront homes, so getting there is part of the fun. Weekends bring the biggest crowd, while weekday trips usually leave more room to spread out.
Captain Allen grew up boating these waters and knows how the sandbar changes with the tide. If your group wants a quieter beach after the party, a run south to Shell Key for island hopping fits into a 6-hour day. Guests staying in Redington Shores can be at the Gulfport ramp after a short drive, so an early start is easy.
